You can excel more quickly and easily in your life when your mental, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical needs are fulfilled.

You have a well of energy that needs to be replenished regularly. When you act as if this well is forever plentiful without any sustenance you are living life on fumes. Could your car operate on fumes in the gas tank? Likewise, you need to replenish the energy that gives you the power to run efficiently.

You might pride yourself in scheduling a long list of activities that fit like puzzle pieces into every minute of every day with little thought of the energy that you need to accomplish it. Thus, without scheduling time to replenish yourself you deplete your energy reserves and become exhausted, disconnected, weak and vulnerable to becoming sick. More often than not, people use food, alcohol, drugs, smoking and other 'quick fix' remedies to replenish, soothe and bolster themselves for the next round of duties and responsibilities.

Replenishing your energy well is a matter of scheduling time to focus on, nurturing and caring for yourself, or as many people call it, 'Me time.' As you manage your responsibilities as mother, father, spouse, friend, son, daughter, brother sister, relative, employee, volunteer you need to include yourself in the equation.

Some people in your life might accuse you of being selfish, as you take time for yourself. You need to adopt the belief that time for yourself is the polar opposite of selfishness. You can only excel where your outer world affairs are concerned when your mental, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical needs are fulfilled.

Recognizing the importance of your, 'Me time,' is more difficult than finding a place for it in an active, multifaceted lifestyle. When you include a spot for your 'Me time,' in your schedule, you may be dismayed to discover that your thoughts continuously stray into feeling guilty or ashamed that you need or take, 'Me time.' To make the most of your 'Me time,' you need to give yourself enough time on either side of the block of time to ensure that you do not feel rushed. And most of all do it 'guilt' free.

Consider how you would like to spend your 'Me time,' forgetting for the moment your obligations and embracing the notion of renewal. You may discover that you are more energized by creative pursuits, guided meditation, relaxing activities, such as yoga, during which your mind can wander, or expressing your creative side through art, writing, journaling, listening to music or gardening.

When you have achieved a functioning work-life balance, you may still neglect the most important part of the equation, you. 'Me time,' prepares you for the next round of daily life, whether you are poised to immerse yourself in a professional project or chores. It also affords you a unique opportunity to learn about yourself, your needs, wants, dreams and your tolerances in a concrete way. As unimportant as 'Me time,' can seem, it truly is crucial to your well-being because it ensures that you are giving yourself as much as you are giving to others.

When you neglect giving to yourself you inevitably feel taken for granted by others. However, the truth of the matter is, you are taking yourself for granted by giving only to others and neglecting yourself. Others will treat you as you treat yourself. The best way to teach others how to treat you is by treating yourself well. When you include 'Me time,' in your schedule you will notice those around you accept it with time.
